Rania Tabbara

Founder & Curator

An art and design advocate for two decades now, Rania is a founding member of the Beirut-based design collective Artishow. She initiated and ran La Petite Académie, an institution that taught children artistic skills. Rania was also one of the co-founders of the Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts, Ashkal Alwan.

Rania Halawi

Founder & Curator

For most of her professional career, Rania held directorial positions in both marketing and event planning. As a result of her industry proficiency, she was one of the leading forces behind many widely acclaimed events including Lebanon 2000. Today Rania combines her communication expertise and global vision with her great passion for art.

Raya Farhat

Founder & Creative Director

An award-winning, Beirut-based art director and photographer, Raya has been a continuous contributor to Lebanon’s A magazine (Aïshti) and L’Officiel Levant for over seven years. A conceptual artist, her expertise in art direction and photography have lead Raya to work with international advertising agencies, as well as exhibit her work in Beirut, Paris and Florence.

Lina Ghotmeh

Scenographer

Lina Ghotmeh advised on the exhibition setup. Award winning Architect, she leads her Architectural practice DGT in Paris with worldwide projects including in France, Beirut and Japan. Among her designs the Estonian National Museum, Realimenter Massena sustainable tower in Paris, Stone Garden housing and Art Galeries underconstruction in Beirut.

Valerie Reinhold

Art Consultant for European artists

Based in Amsterdam, Valerie Reinhold offers a cross-cultural curatorial approach, as well as art advisory and art investment competences. She is also a regular contributor to various art publications.

Ahmad Tabbara

Ahmad Tabbara completed elementary school at Al-Makassed College and his baccalaureate at College Notre-Dame de Jamhour. He then studied at the American University of Beirut and received a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Tabbara worked in the family business of food products and established Al-Amsal Company as well as Tabbara Electromechanical Company. He conducted several real estate projects in addition to the Ibdaa’ Microfinance as well as Toufic Tabbara Center that tends to social affairs.

Rula Alami

Rula Alami (born 1963) is an art collector, assistant curator and art dealer based in Lebanon. She has been engaged in Middle East art market for over 15 years. Her area of special interest is Arab modern and contemporary art. She has co-curated thematic exhibitions in Beirut and Dubai namely Art Palestine & Art in Iraq Today. She is currently working on new exhibitions in the region for 2017. Her extensive collection focuses on Arab art and is featured on her personal website www.kiyan-art.com . The goal of her site is to raise exposure to regional art and create a platform of information about Arab artists. Rula is a member of the curating and collections committee of The Palestinian Museum. Rula holds a masters degree in Economics from SOAS, University of London (1986) and an EMBA from the American University of Beirut (2012).

Dina Zamely

Dina Zameli began her professional path in Educational Psychology with a focus on children with special needs. After many years in practice she started her own projects organizing events and workshops for the youth with the main focus on raising awareness about global issues and their impact on the society using the media of Art and Design. In 2015 she founded Unframed, a platform to promote the culture of the Arts through interactive workshops, Art talks and Art walks. She is a member of the acquisitions committee for the Middle Eastern Art at Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Paris and a member of the acquisition’s committee at the British Museum for Middle Eastern Art in the UK. She is also a member of Art Dubai ‘Art Salon’ to support contemporary art projects, art talks, round tables and visits to artists and collections. She is also a member of the advisory board for the Embrace fund for empowering people with mental illnesses to seek and access appropriate care. Zameli is a philanthropist and supports many institutions like Ashkal Alwan, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture in Beirut and Shubbak festival in London. She created an endowment fund at Northeastern University, Boston to support the Center of global Philanthropy and Social impact.in order to raise awareness about methods and practices. The fund supports the exchange with other universities in the Middle East. She is currently on the advisory committee of a public art commission project for the Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and clinical center in Beirut.

PERSISTENCE AND RESISTANCE

The exhibition reconciles past and present. It approaches two interpretations of protraction, resistance and persistence. A reflection on perseverance in Lebanon, the show will take place at the Rene Mouawad (Sanayeh) Garden, honoring its rich history as an intersection of conflict, refuge, and reverie. Contemporary artists from the MENA region as well as international contemporary artists will exhibit works or commissioned pieces for the garden and investigate resistance and persistence through their practice.
